My Experience with and Appreciation for Michael Dowd

by: George Price

I met Michael Dowd back in September of 2021 in a Zoom presentation centered around Michael’s “Serenity Prayer for the 21st Century” presentation, through Faith and Climate Action Montana, in Missoula, Montana. We also corresponded a little by email, but I never had the pleasure of meeting Michael in person. Even so, listening to him speak and teach on “The Great Story,” and all of the wonderful Post-Doom conversations had a profound, illuminating impact on my understanding of Earth’s predicament.

About three years ago, in 2022, I began research and writing for a double book review/essay of William Catton’s two books, Overshoot and Bottleneck, and planned to share the essay with Michael, “Catton’s Bulldog,” when I got done with it. I heard the sad news about Michael’s passing a little over a year ago, and really wished I could have finished the essay and shared it with him while he was still here with us, but it was one of those kind of projects that kind of took on a life of its own until it became a 72-page short book. Well, I just finished it and posted it on my blog, Learning Earthways. So, I am sharing the link.
